The objectives of the programme are to contribute to the growth of the Australian economy by:

- increasing the export of Australian goods and services
- increasing the production of goods and services in Australia
- introducing new or improved technology
- increasing competition and commercial activity

- increasing the dispersal of business migrants across Australia through state and territory government sponsorship.
- Structure of the Business Innovation and Investment Programme
- The Business Innovation and Investment Programme is a state/territory nominated programme which is made up of three subclasses:
Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457) The Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457) allows skilled workers to come to Australia and work for an approved business for up to four years. You must be sponsored by an approved business. A business can sponsor someone for this visa if they cannot find an Australian citizen or permanent resident to do the skilled work.
